Presentation Lustrerie
La Lustrerie – Schaerbeek’s solidarity-oriented business centre – is an economic development tool in the Brussels-Capital Region.
It enjoys the financial support of the Regional Government and the ERDF (European Regional Development Fund) in the context of the Objective 2 Programme. Its Mission is to provide start-up entrepreneurs with the best conditions for ensuring the economic viability of their businesses on the one hand, and to make them socially responsible on the other hand. La Lustrerie forms part of the Brussels-Capital Region’s business centre network. PhilosophyLa Lustrerie is a solidarity-oriented business centre, closely involved in the life of the district and its revitalisation. In this context, preference is given to low-qualification jobs, and the management of the building is oriented towards environmental sustainability (selective sorting of waste, “equitable” drinks distributor, energy-saving light bulbs, and a green roof project). Its team strives to make the centre a place of conviviality; its small size gives it a “family” character that the tenant companies appreciate, and its garden is there to welcome you when the weather is fine. Appreciated by companies in creative fields, La Lustrerie today houses architects, silkscreen printers and web designers, and occasionally organises or takes part in cultural events. BackgroundThe “Pavillon” district in Schaerbeek, like many districts in Brussels, has suffered from a series of ills known as “impoverishment”, “population ageing”, “industrial decline”, and so on. Since 2003, La Lustrerie has put a lot of effort into providing another image to an area whose revitalisation is still to come.Promoting sponsorsBorn out of the initiative of two Schaerbeek non-profit associations, Mission Locale pour l’Emploi (the local mission for employment) and Iles asbl, the La Lustrerie business centre project has been able to come to fruition thanks to the Municipality of Schaerbeek, the Brussels-Capital Region, and the European Union. The La Lustrerie site has been preserved thanks to the interest of the Municipality of Schaerbeek. The latter has become its owner in the context of a district contract, and has wanted to enable a solidarity-oriented business centre to emerge within it. La Lustrerie is a limited liability co-operative company created in December 2003. It encompasses the following socio-economic players involved in the Brussels Region and in Schaerbeek:
